Top Plumbing Tips
We often fail to appreciate good things in our life and plumbing may be one of such things. Plumbing set up in most households is often subject to rough use, but it is only at the time something goes wrong that we appreciate the importance of careful handling of plumbing. But don’t worry, following are some of the top tips and tricks which will help you to take care of your plumbing and avoid unnecessary hassle and headaches for getting things fixed.
1) Anti-Clogging Chemicals is a Big NO:
It is common for drains of sinks and toilets to get clogged. Different chemicals claiming to unclog these drains are advertised and commonly used in households. Be advised that these chemicals do more harm than good in the long run. It is, therefore, advised avoiding their use. Other options, such as a drain auger (which needs to be inserted into the drain and pulled back) or dry/ wet shop vacuum may be handier in this regard.
2) Avoid Pouring Oil or Grease Down the Drain:
In the short run, it may seem as if grease or oil is being flushed out just like water. But if you keep pouring grease or oil down your sink, for example, while washing dishes, the grease or oil starts building up slowly and will ultimately clog your pipes. This will create an unnecessary problem and you will have to spend time and/ or money to unclog your pipes. It is recommended to go for alternate but safer options.
3) Know your Plumbing:
You are not expected to be a master plumber in order to safeguard your house from unnecessary damage, but you need to be aware of the basics. For example, if the main water pipe was to burst due to any reason whatsoever, you must be aware of the main water valve as turning it off would minimize the damage.
4) Make Drain Access Points Accessible:
There is no point in making your plumber move through a maze of toys, boxes or other household stuff to access main drain access points. Make sure these points are accessible and their path is clear of unnecessary hurdles in case these points need to be accessed in an emergency.
